Anatomy of a State Council Group

Any member of OR Nurse Link can join State Council groups. Non group members, when they visit your State Council group, will land on the Group Profile tab and will not be able to see State Council discussions, calendar, etc. until they join the group.

To join, users will need to click the big blue Join This Group button located in the right-hand column of the Group Profile page.

The State Council group is composed of several features. I'll give you an overview of them now.

Group Navigation Tabs
In the top middle of your group page, you'll notice a group of gray tabs that allow you to navigate to different areas of your State Council group site.

Overview Tab
The Overview tab is the group site "homepage". It's the page that you land on when you first come to your State Council group site. The Overview page will list the five Latest Discussion Posts on your State Council discussion board and any recent comments.

Discussions Tab
The Discussions Tab will bring you to your State Council's discussion board. A discussion board is very much like a cork bulletin board: you can post announcements, discuss council business, and share clinical information -- whatever interests your council members. All group members can post to the discussion board; group owners have special privileges to moderate discussions.

Group Resources Tab
Every State Council group has its own Resource Center for members to upload and download documents and files relevant to the group. This is one of the places you could upload a newsletter.

Calendar Tab
Each State Council has its own calendar to post events and meetings.

Members Tab
The members tab will list out all the people who have joined your State Council Group.

The State Council groups on OR Nurse Link are unlike Speciality Assembly and Chapter groups because AORN does not maintain State Council membership lists -- the State Councils do.

Because individual State Councils maintain their own membership lists, AORN has no way of knowing which members should automatically be added to State Council groups on OR Nurse Link.

So anyone who has joined your group has done so voluntarily. Learn how to invite members to your group.

Owner Settings Tab
Only Group Owners have access to the owner settings tab, and here's an explanation of the features on the owner settings page

It's up to the individual State Councils to keep the group owners on OR Nurse Link current. Here's how to change group owners.

Message Members Button
The big orange Message Members button in the right-hand column of the site allows group owners to send an email to everyone in the group all at once. The Message Members button appears on every page of the State Council group if you're a group owner.

Start a Discussion Box
The Start a Discussion Box allows you to post a new message on your State Council discussion board. All group members can post a new discussion. This box appears on every page of the State Council group.

About This Group Box
The most important information in the About This Group box is the list of group owners.

In some cases, State Councils have reported their officers and board members to AORN, so we have that information and have manually added those members as State Council Group owners to kick-start group participation.

But it's up to the individual State Councils to keep the group owners on OR Nurse Link current and invite their members to the group.
