Inviting Group Members
If you've created a group and would like to invite members to join your new group, or you belong to a group and would like your colleagues to join, sending out invitations is easy.
Please note that membership to Specialty Assembly, Chapter, and AORN Committee groups is controlled by the membership database at AORN headquarters, so if you would like someone to join your Chapter or Committee, they will need to contact AORN Customer Service at 800-755-2676 ext 1 or by
email.
If you'd like someone to join your Specialty Assembly, they can change their
SA groups through MyAORN.
There are a couple ways of sending out invitations; one is better for smaller sized groups, and the other method is best if you have a large group of invitees and have a list of their email addresses.
Inviting a Few Members
If you have a small number of invitees, click on Invite Members in the upper right-hand corner of the group's pages. (In some cases the Invite Members button may be missing -- that means the group owners do not want group members to send out invitations to the group.)
A Compose New Message page will appear, and you can select members to invite to the group.
To select members, in the To field start typing in the first or last name of your invitee.
As you type, the pull-down menu will populate with the members whose names contain the letters you've typed.
Please note that it may take a few seconds for the pull-down menu to appear with a list of names.
If no names appear in the list and you've typed in both a first and last name together, try using just a first name or just their last name -- sometimes using less information will yield more results.
Click on the name you'd like add, and their name will now appear in the To field.
Repeat for additional recipients.
If desired, personalize your invitation message.
The invited colleague will receive the invitation in their OR Nurse Link inbox.
They will need to click on the link in the message to visit the group, and then click "Join This Group". Depending on your group's approval settings, you or the group owner may need to approve your colleague's join request.
Inviting Many Members
If you have a large number of people you'd like to invite to your group, and have a list of their email addresses, the best way to invite them involves using your external email program to compose an invitation email with a direct link to the group and instructions for joining.
To find your group's URL, click on the Group Profile tab in your group.
Once on your group profile page, go to the address bar in your browser, and copy the URL to your clipboard.
This is the URL that you'll paste into the email that you'll send to invitees.
Open your email program and compose a new message with instructions for joining the new group.
Here's a sample invitation email. Notice that I've pasted the URL link to the group in the body of the message and have instructed invitees to click on the link, login to the site, and then click the Join This Group button.
If you would like the text of this invitation email to use in your email,
download the file here.
I've also created a
screen capture of the Join This Group button
that you can use your email.
