Covering carts of sterile supplies

Covering carts of sterile supplies

Central supply stocks two large supply carts that stand in the hallway of our small and congested OR.  Should these carts be covered?  What are the AORN recommendations for cleaning, covering, and maintaining these carts?

Hi,
There are so many additional factors that impact an answer and the appropriateness of carts of sterile items in the hallway. Is the hallway temperature and humidity controlled and monitored? Is it wide enough to meet fire codes? Is the cart appropriate size to be right distance from ceiling and the floor? Is the bottom shelf solid? Most likely it is best to have it covered, however depending on the conditions it may not be necessary. Most hallways are not set up for proper sterile supply storage. Sorry to be long winded.
